I waited patiently…

Waiting. Who likes to wait? It seems that life is about hurrying and then waiting. Sometimes when I have to wait, I think it is because someone else is slow or late and they are wasting my time.  Don’t they know how valuable my time is?? Honestly!

Then I thought of times when I was barreling ahead and heard, “WAIT!” Sometimes I am grateful for that kind of “wait”.  I think I experience both of those times with God.  Sometimes I start to do my own thing and am wishing that God would hurry up and do what I want. Yet sometimes, I hear His caution, “Hey, wait for Me.”

Ps 40:1-3, David said.

“I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God…”

It appears that David was in a pit – maybe a pit of self-doubt, fear, loneliness, depression, financial or relationship woes. He cried out.  God leaned in to Him. God heard him. Then God brought him out of his pit – his pity, his miry clay and set his feet on solid ground – truth. Standing on truth gives us strength and confidence.

This is a picture of David recognizing that he has some kind of problem. He doesn’t fight the problem. He sees the problem, admits the problem and calls out for help. God gives him the truthful, solid ground on which to stand and puts a new song in his mouth. God rescues us when we cry out for help, establishes us in truth and gives us a new thought and a new song to sing.

God says, “wait, I have something better for you!” Lean into Him and allow Him to give you a new song to sing.
