The Heart of God

When Philip asked Jesus to show him the Father, Jesus responded by saying, “He who has seen Me has seen the Father” (Jn. 14:9). Christ revealed the Father in many ways, but I’m thinking specifically about Him meeting Peter at the docks as he returned from fishing all night. He had been skunked, a fact that no fisherman likes to mutter, let alone admit. But it was true. Not a fish all night. Nothing to show for his effort. There is a “tired” from working all night and accomplishing your goal, and there is a “tired” from simply working all night.

1 John 1:9 - Bane or Blessing

Asking for forgiveness is similar to repeatedly asking Jesus to save you or continuing to ask your spouse to marry you. God must agonize when a born-again person repeatedly exhorts Him to "be faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness," as if He had failed to accomplish this through Jesus! Our obligation is to believe Him.

Forgiving and Forgiveness

Friendship is a two-way street, but not forgiveness. One person can decide to forgive regardless of what the other person decides to do. As a matter of fact, the other person can be dead, but even that shouldn’t incapacitate the choice to forgive.

What Kind of Nature Do Christians Have?

It is not evil to be a human or Jesus would have been evil, but it is evil to possess a sin nature. It is the sin nature that condemns a man to hell, not his sinful performance. A man could perform perfectly but still go to hell because of his sin nature.
